When you become a Permanent Resident of Canada, you will be given wallet-sized PR Card to establish your status. If you leave Canada, you will require this card to prove your permanent resident status and re-enter the nation.
Permanent residents who do not have a PR card or who do not have their PR card with them travelling outside the country will need to get a Permanent Resident Travel Document before flyer back to prove your permanent resident status in Canada.
Although you do not loose your permanent resident status if your PR card expires, it is critical that you renew PR card before it expires(every five years). If you renew your PR card on time, you will prevent problems and stress if you need to travel - planned for unforeseen - while your PR card is still valid. PR renewals might take many months to process. To keep your PR card in good standing, you must keep up with your residency duties.
